Frequently Asked Questions
It’s for you! It’s been made by people like you for people like you.
With your help (actually editing) we will end up with the most accurate database of video games & companies, all linked together and visible on a map.
There are literally hundreds of uses not only by the industry, but even by Governments to see just how poorly they are supporting the game industry in certain states or certain countries. Nothing paints the picture better than a live map of activity.
No catch, it’s totally free.
David Perry funds the development team and will continue to do so. We are experimenting with advertising & Amazon links to see if people support these sponsors. If they do, then the site will become self-sustaining.
The database is backed up off the server, we also have a full Admin backend so we can undo any damage the same way Wikipedia does it. (We have a team of moderators managing this aspect.)
Absolutely! We LOVE passionate volunteers, they can make a pretty massive impact, and it’s cool for them to know that the industry is using their work every day.
Students, the good news is that we tend to recruit from our volunteer base, because they have revealed their ability to get things done. We simply ask that you have plenty of spare time and that you are flexible as we have totally random tasks coming up all the time. Just contact us at the bottom of the page.
We are considering sponsorships, but ideally we would prefer one major corporate sponsor in exchange for removing current banner advertising. Ideally this sponsor would care about the future of the industry and be willing to invest into the expansion of the site. (Yes we have more ideas than bandwidth.)
Please try to put the pin on the Front door wherever possible. If not certain where the door is, then the middle of their building. If you don’t know the address, but do know the town or city, put the pin there for now, someone else will likely make the final placement. If you just have no idea where a company is, then put the pin into the Bermuda Triangle. (You can be sure one of our visitors knows where that company used to be, so they can save the pin from the Bermuda Triangle.)
We are experimenting paying an external agency to do the geo-coding for us. We pay for this as it’s more accurate than Google. We’re interested to hear how accurately they found your addresses? They specialize in these countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland (Helsinki only), France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway (Oslo only), Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and United States.
Some countries have blocked Google from mapping their territory (China & Korea are examples.) You can still add the addresses & pins, but need to refer to another map to find out approximately where the pin should go. We would LOVE people in those countries to work with our team to try to get the pins as accurate as possible. (We hope at some point Google will be able to map these countries correctly.)

Sorry but no, the goal is to keep people coming here, so this site accurately reflects the current status of the video game industry.
Please just email it to: faq@gameindustrymap.com
Special Thanks goes out to these folks that made this possible:
